About the Item
The giltwood frame with a soft lustre, each having scroll arched pediment, centred by a pronounced shell with acanthus decoration above the original bevelled plates within a foliate scroll punched strapwork ground. The shaped apron centred by a further acanthus leaf flanked by conforming leaf decoration. English, Circa 1725
Provenance;
A set of four mirrors with Frank Partridge New York in 1953 (advertised in The Magazine Antiques, October 1953 as ‘four superb Queen Anne gilt gesso pier mirrors’)
Acquired by Walter P. Chrysler from Frank Partridge, the provenance confirmed in the Chrysler sale catalogue
Two of the mirrors sold ‘Magnificent Queen Anne and Georgian Cabinetwork….from the Collection of Walter P. Chrysler’ Part One, Parke-Bernet New York, 29th and 30th of April 1960, lots 254 and 254a
