About the Item
A refined pair of early 19th-century neoclassical overmantel mirrors, each surmounted by a crisply carved eagle crest flanked by scrolling foliage and rosettes. The rectangular giltwood frames are finely beaded and divided horizontally by a central rail, typical of the Regency and Federal periods. The original mercury glass plates are divided into two sections, echoing Palladian design influences.
Condition:
Very good antique condition. Minor losses to gilding in places with some surface wear consistent with age. Glass plates are original, showing attractive, even foxing characteristic of aged mercury glass.
Circa 1780
