Museal dressing table stamped by Jean Fauré. Jean Fauré (1896-1983) was a cabinetmaker from Toulouse with a classic modern style. He was a worthy successor to Hélène Gasset-Housset, who exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs from 1920 to 1934. Period: Art Deco - Circa: 1930 Stamped: Jean Fauré "JF Dimensions with Glass: Height :148cm x Length :131cm x Width :52cm Height of cabinet: 67cm - Diameter of mirror: 108cm Our dressing table is made of wood and veneered with American walnut. The side pedestals are offset at the top, each opening into a cupboard with a door revealing a beautiful storage space enhanced by an inlaid internal drawer. Walnut, or its Latin name "Juglans", whether from France or America, is a wood much appreciated in furniture making, but also in decoration, luxury car dashboards, guitar making and old radio sets. Its untreated grey colour gives way to a more or less dark brown when varnished or oiled. The central glass top is rectangular and slightly lowered. The mirror is fixed and round. The mirror is original and fixed on a wooden support. The master's stamp appears on the right-hand side of the footrest. This unique piece has been fully restored by the Atelier TWS (Wimereux), where the expertise of our craftsmen in preserving our beautiful heritage has once again been highlighted with meticulous dismantling and stripping to restore the frames, veneers and marquetry varnished with a buffer. Art Deco is an artistic movement that began in 1910 and ended in 1939. This typically French style replaced the exuberance of Art Nouveau, which was primarily ornamental. In contrast, Art Deco returned to purity of form and was both geometric and decorative. It was extremely influential, especially in architecture and design, as well as all forms of visual art. Art Deco furniture was designed by decorators for a wealthy clientele with a thirst for novelty, but who remained relatively conformist. The furniture was made by cabinet-makers in search of luxury and perfection. The furniture is therefore often unique.
