About the Item

Art nouveau Argentor mirror Origin Austria Circa 1900 Art nouveay style Creator: Argentor Gold and electroplated Very good general condition natural wear The history of the company dates back to 1863, when C. A. Münchmeyer & Co. was founded. It was the owner of a galvanizing factory built in 1894 on a long, narrow piece of land between Kaiserstrasse and Wimbergergasse in the 7th district of Vienna. CA Münchmeyer & Co. initially commissioned the Stagl Brodhag company to construct a residential and administrative building and, at the same time, a six-storey cross courtyard at Kaiserstraße 83. At the beginning of the 20th century there were branches in Berlin and Paris, with defeats in Vienna at the Casa Piccola at Mariahilfer Straße 1c in the 6th district and at Waitznergasse 14 in the 4th district of Budapest. In 1902 Argentor-Werke Rust & Hetzel emerged from the predecessor company CA Münchmeyer & Co. Over time, Argentor-Werke became one of the most important metalware manufacturers of Viennese Art Nouveau. Not only silver cutlery, bowls, centerpieces, tea and coffee services were produced, but also home furnishings such as frames, clocks, electric lamps, vases and vases. Of particular importance were the so-called mounting elements, which were rimmed glasses manufactured at the Argentor factory. Several of the glasses used came from the famous Art Nouveau glass company Joh Loetz Götter, with whom Argentor worked.
