About the Item
A Gustavian Shaving Mirror in Mahogany & Brass Details. Sweden 1780-1790s.
A beautiful shaving mirror in mahogany (Mahogani Swietania). Made in Sweden during the 1780s-1790s, either during the reign of King Gustav III or his son Gustav IV. The period is highly appreciated for its use of elegant materials combined with a refined and slightly simplified classicism when compared with the pre-revolutionary France, from which the court of the Swedish kings took much influence.
The shaving mirror stands upon a small chest of drawers with two drawers (complete and functional with lock) in mahogany. The lock and the drawers are ornamented with brass details in a refined classical form. The mirror is adjustable as to enable a closer shave. Perfect not only for shaving and as a mirror for applying makeup, but also as a solely decorative piece.
