About the Item

Miroir François Lembo, ceramic, jewelry, gold, emerald green, black signed. Small circular mirror, enameled in gold, with inlaid jewel decoration. Signed F. Lembo with incised signature on back. A native of Vallauris, François Lembo began his career as a potter in 1951, working in the Calva and Rossignol workshops. After completing his apprenticeship and national service, he worked for 3 years in the workshop of his father-in-law, Marc Roussel, before opening his own workshop in Vallauris in 1960. Roussel's work, influenced by Byzantine art, inspired Lembo to create mirrors, often decorated in the style of Russian icons. He produced a number of religious icons decorated with small ceramic beads. Lembo sold his work to “Terre de Provence” and enjoyed considerable success in the 1960s-1970s. He worked as a ceramist for over 23 years. He passed away in 2013.
