19th Century Gilt Mirror with Faceted Glass
About the Item
Here is a beautiful antique 19th century French gilt parecloses mirror. The shape of the mirror frame and the decorations used are typical for the Louis XVI. The mirror frame has a central glass plate with a facetted edge and is surrounded by four tilted and facetted glass plates. This type of mirror frame is also known as parecloses. The mirror frame is extensively decorated with deep draping ribbons and acanthus. It's enriched with a beautiful top ornament featuring a central shield flanked by putti holding a floral garland and elegant crest. The mirror frame was completely gold leaf gilt and polished. Some parts were polished to a greater extent than others, resulting in rich variations in both gloss and color. The quality of the gold leaf is very good and the piece in general is in great condition. The glass shows a little age-appropriate wear that fits the antique appearance of the mirror well.
