19th Century Spanish Neo Rococo Mirror

About the Item

Spanish neo rococo mirror after original 18th century models design by the famous Italian architects Sempronio Subissati and Giovanni Battista Sachetti for the Royal Palace of La Granja in Segovia, Spain. The mirror was made in the middle of the 19th century, faithfully following the Rococo style, so predominant a century earlier. This mirror bases its design on another series of large mirrors that were designed exclusively for the Royal Palace of La Granja to dress the walls of the famous marble room or room of Europa. These mirrors are very famous because they were the first of such large dimensions to come out of the Royal Glass Manufactory, also located in the same town. Our mirror, made in golden stucco, follows very faithfully the original design formed by palms and flowers, changing the design of the upper shell and adding the amusing touch of an angel's wing, conferring an almost mystical and metaphorical touch, so typical of that time.
