Antique 19th Century French Small Oval Gold Gilt Louis Philipe Mirror with Crest

About the Item

On offer here is a beautiful small oval mirror, crafted in France in the latter half of the 19th century, circa 1870. The mirror frame features a smooth pine wood frame coated with gesso. It's adorned with rich ornamentation including shell motifs, acanthus leaves, scrolls, and flowers. The frame has a base layer of red earth, also known as the bolus layer. Onto this layer, gold leaf was applied before being polished. The gold was patinated to add depth. The mirror retains its original glass, showing minor scratches and spots, giving it a beautifully weathered look that complements its antique charm. The glass was carefully removed from the frame in the workshop, and then gently cleaned. It was securely placed back and added a new pine wood backing to protect the glass. The mirror is clean, undamaged, and ready for use.
