Antique early 20th century small oval gold leaf and paint gilt French mirror
About the Item
This is a beautiful small oval mirror that was crafted in France in the early 20th century, around 1910. The mirror features a frame made of lime wood and is adorned with plaster molding and ornaments. The top ornament consists of a tied ribbon flanked by two floral garlands. The highest parts have finely profiled molding. The mirror is gilded with a combination of gold leaf and gold paint over a red base layer. The red base layer, also known as red bole, shines through the gold, giving it a warm glow. After gilding, the mirror frame was patinated, providing it with more definition. The mirror glass has been recently replaced and a new pine backing has been added. The mirror is in very good condition, free from any defects. It is sturdy, clean, and read y for use.
