Antique Italian Carved Giltwood Rococo Style Mirror
About the Item
Antique Italian Carved Giltwood Rococo Style Mirror is a beautiful representation of the style, with a restrained interpretation that results in a dignified, timeless Italian look without being too ostentatious. Hand-carved giltwood surrounds the mirror accented with stylized foliate and shell accents on all sides, but the crown is particularly impressive, featuring a pierce-carved artwork centered with a fanciful acanthus plume modeled after a scallop shell surrounded by scrollwork and foliates, and crowned at the top with an acanthus flourish. The word rococo is derived from a combination of baroque, the style immediately preceeding rococo, and the French word for shell, which is rocaille, and usually a prominent stylistic feature of the genre. The aged patina of the gold finish adds an Old World effect that cannot be denied!
