Antique Provençale Giltwood Mirror with Openwork Grapevine Motifs, Circa 1750
About the Item
Beautiful and towering, standing over six feet tall (76+ inches), this giltwood mirror was hand-carved in Provence, France, circa 1750. The elaborate carvings consist of twisting grapevines that form an open frame surrounding three sections of glass. Additional motifs include sweeping volutes set in between large leaf clusters and a smaller foliate leg. Another pair of volutes grace the upper corners of the frame, each beneath two curled leaves. At the bottom of the frame is a small cluster of leaves, banded together, just above a sprawling leaf curl. The top is embellished with a massive floral bouquet, bound by a flowing crinkle ribbon and surmounting an open pair of scrolls. Our impressive Provencale giltwood mirror has been rigged for hanging and can be mounted to the wall of a hallway, bedroom, or living room.
