About the Item
'Momentum Mirror II' by Soo Joo is a statement wooden wall mirror with a unique and timeless asymmetric form. The sculptural distilled form elevates any space. It hangs flush to the wall with custom-made steel French cleats, and can be hung horizontally or vertically. This version of the mirror is in a cool Walnut Wood and a slightly smaller size than the bronze mirror.
This organic mirror silhouette is minimal but dynamic nature, hand-carved by the artist. The walnut-wood frame is hand-carved, to create a detailed, buttery smooth form that couldn't be created through digital rendering. The general gestural form is based on a monoprint artwork that motion-tracks the artist's body in momentive movement. This is a biophilic design technique that the artist developed. The designer creatively captures the essence of traditional Korean aesthetics into a modern context in this piece. Her eye for novel forms and sensitivity to detail come from a background in fine art and sculpture. The undulating thin and thick frame creates a poetic flow and brings the essence of nature indoors.

Soo Joo Studio
Soo Joo is a Korean-American artist who works in Seoul, Korea and New York. Although she has a background in fine art, she studied Furniture Design at RISD. She develops novel biophilic design techniques and objects that bring the essence of nature indoors. "At the basic core of my work is an investigation into biophilic design: how non-living, abstract art and objects can still carry the essence of nature, through material and formal language. Through my work, I develop a new visual language that serves as an alternative to geometry, from an East Asian perspective."
