About
Hungarian painter Jozsef Rippl-Ronai (1861-1927) was a member of Les Nabis, a group of post-Impressionist artists active in late 19th century, France. Bark Frameworks first made this frame for one of his paintings in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Rippl-Ronai designed tiles and pottery too, and it was from one of his tile borders that we took the leaf-like pattern for this frame. The mirror frame is maple with a hand-carved applique detail made out of four-ply mat board. The entire frame was then covered in gesso and finished in casein, producing a terra cotta like effect. The mirror glass is water white (low iron), with a 1-inch bevel.

In addition to our own original profiles, the frame designs of Edgar Degas inspired some of our mirror frames. After company founder Jared Bark researched the artist’s notebooks firsthand in Paris in the 1990s, we decided to build many of these never-before-produced frames. Now, these once-radical designs add elegance to any interior.
