Degas No. 5 Modern Wall Mirror, Gilded in 23-Karat Yellow Gold, Bark Frameworks

The Degas No. 5 wall mirror by Bark Frameworks is based on a design by Impressionist painter Edgar Degas (1834-1917), from his notebooks of 1877-1883. The polymath of the Impressionists, Degas drew numerous frame profiles throughout his career -- most were considered radical for their time. Many of Degas' frame designs were never produced until Bark Frameworks decided to build them, after company founder and artist Jared Bark traveled to the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris to study the artist's original notebooks. The Degas No. 5 mirror frame is gilded in 23-karat yellow gold over dark red bole. The mirror glass is water white (low iron) with a 3/4" bevel.

Bark Frameworks

View Profile
Established in 1969, Bark Frameworks designs and produces frames for artwork and mirrors. Our commitment to innovative design is visible in every mirror frame we create. A Bark Frameworks mirror is a unique object. Every Bark frame is custom made at our 27,000-square-foot facility in Long Island City by craftspeople who have honed their skills for years, sometimes decades. Our LIC shop -- which houses two showrooms, design and art preservation studios, a wood shop, a metal shop, and a gilding studio – allows us to offer clients nearly-endless customization options for mirrors when it comes to size, material, and finish. In addition to our own original profiles, the frame designs of Edgar Degas inspired some of our mirror frames. After company founder Jared Bark researched the artist’s notebooks firsthand in Paris in the 1990s, we decided to build many of these never-before-produced frames. Now, these once-radical designs add elegance to any interior.
