Dutch Faux Tortoise Shell Mirror, Holland circa 1870 (23"w x 26"h)

A handsome Dutch faux tortoise and ebonized wood frame enclosing the original beveled mirror glass from Holland circa 1870. Please notice the depth of the frame with its contrasting bands of black and tortoise. The ebonized timber has a dramatic rippled effect that catches the light and reflects it in a subtle manner. This type of frame was developed during the 17th century in Flanders and was particularly popular to surround portraits, mirrors and still life paintings.
