Fireplace mirror Biedermeier circa 1840 nut shellac
Puristically held mirror with a frame made of walnut burl wood veneer. The from does without obtrusive elements such as carvings or columns, a clear language of form was the spirit of the time. The recourse to antiquity can also be seen in this furniture of the outgoing Neoclassicism. Only slight curves in the sides, worked out as a coving, and a curved capital give this furniture some structure. The surface is finished by hand with a shellac polish, which makes the interesting grain stand out from the foot of the walnut tree.
