French 18th Century Gilt & Painted Trumeau Mirror
About the Item
A spellbinding French trumeau style mirror, Louis XVI period (18th century). The painted and giltwood frame has an ornate pediment at the top with delicately carved imagery including a dove at center topped with a loop of ribbon draping around a pair of arrow quivers and laurel branches. Surrounded with dentil molding, the original mirror plate shows a dazzling layer of crystals with a few areas of dark foxing. Lovely craquelure texture enhances the red bole beneath the gilt molding, extending to the wooden back panel, painted light French gray (also well patinated). At the bottom of the mirror, two thick feet balance and protect the frame. Strung with picture wire on the back, ready to hang in your interior.
