A French 19th century Louis XVI st. giltwood mirror
About the Item
A most elegant and uniquely shaped French 19th century Louis XVI st. giltwood mirror. The original oval beveled mirror plate is surrounded by a berried laurel mottled border and an outer Coeur de Rai trim. At the four corners are large scrolled foliate branches while on both sides and the bottom center are decorated with shell like reserves with scrolls flanked by acanthus leaves. The mirror is elevated by a bottom panel with two legs decorated with two additional reserves and central laurel branches tied by a bow. The intricately carved top is exquisitely decorated with two love birds (love),a quiver (strength), the eternal flame (longevity), and laurel branches (peace). All original gilding throughout.
