French round gilded wood Mirror, 40s olive leaves
About the Item
Gorgeous mirror with a carved and gilded wooden frame, made at the beginning of the 20th century and of French origin. It comes from a private collection. The frame, with a circular profile, has two sections, the outer one is ornamented with olive leaves arranged radially and the inner one, which directly surrounds the mirror, with a garland of bows. It is in very good condition for its age and use.
The olive tree, olive branches and its leaves have a large amount of symbolism and meanings. Since classical antiquity, olive branches or wreaths were given as a prize to the winners of the Olympic Games. For Christianity, they are a symbol of prosperity and protection and, generally, an olive branch is a global symbol of peace.
