George III Chippendale Style Carved Giltwood Mirror, 19th Century

About

Exceptional 19th century George III style Chippendale style carved giltwood mirror. The work is surmounted by an intricately carved balcony encasing a small gilt musician with musical instrument over mirror surrounded by carved laurel leaves with vines, scrolling acanthus and foliage motif. The base itself is centered by double C-scroll clasps and leaves. Thomas Chippendale (1718 – 1779) was born in Otley in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England in June 1718. He became a cabinet-maker in London, designing furniture in the mid-Georgian, English Rococo, and Neoclassical styles. In 1754 he published a book of his designs, titled The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker's Director, upon which success he became renowned.
