About the Item

Late 18th Century George III Stripped Pine Mirror. Unlike the more common gilded or painted examples of the period, this mirror remains in pine, offering collectors an opportunity to appreciate the craftsmanship and honest character of the carving. Pine was a favored medium in Georgian England, valued for its workability and often intended as a base for gilt or paint. When left in its natural state, however, it develops a rich, timeworn surface, as seen here. The rectangular plate is framed by a molded surround enriched with carved leaf decoration along the sides. The crest features a broken-arch pediment centered by a finely carved eagle with spread wings, a symbolic motif popular in the late Georgian period. In today’s interiors, it offers both decorative charm and historical significance, working seamlessly in traditional or modern interiors alike.
