Delightful rectangular Louis XVI gilded wood mirror with moulded frame enhanced by garlands of pearls.
Mercury glass.
A large openwork pediment decorated with acanthus leaves and flowers enhanced by a flaming heart, symbol of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
A magnificent tribute to Louis XVI's vow to the Sacred Heart.
Period: 18th century

The Louis XVI style is characterised by its straight lines and symmetrical decorations.
The frames of the mirror mouldings are always made of oak, beech, amaranth or walnut, and European limewood for the carvings.
The carved wood is gilded with gold or painted in pastel tones with gold highlights.
The Louis XVI mirror became a key decorative object of its time.
Mercury mirrors were still made in the Royal Manufactory, which lost its privileges and monopoly with the Revolution of 1789.
