A Italian 18th century Neo-Classical st. patinated and Giltwood mirror
About the Item
An elegant and most decorative Italian 18th century Neo-Classical st. patinated and Giltwood mirror. This exquisitely detailed mirror is raised on a rectangular faux painted marble base. Centrally located above the base is the original rectangular mirror plate edged with a pierced Giltwood band of foliate patterns and a dentil patterned patinated outer edge. Flanking the mirror on either side are two fluted patinated columns having mottled Giltwood plinths and scrolling acanthus leaf decorated ionic top capitals. On the outside of each column are elaborate scrolling designs and Giltwood caryatids decorated by patinated acanthus leaves. The stepped patinated top crown is tastefully decorated by a pierced Giltwood array of scrolling acanthus leaves and palmettes designs with a central reserve of a blossomed flower. Below the top crown is a mottled, patinated, and Giltwood band with uniquely shaped patterns. The top crown contains a male profile in a tear drop shaped frame in the center while being flanked by a collection of Giltwood and patinated acanthus leaves. All original patination, mirror plate and Gilt throughout.
