About the Item
A breathtaking and monumentally scaled Italian 18th century Venetian st. giltwood mirror. The most impressive mirror retains all of its original mirror plates throughout which are set within a dramatic and extremely finely detailed carved giltwood frame. Below and at the center is a beautiful pierced bottom reserve with elegant scrolled floral movements set on a mirrored backplate. At each bottom corner are charming richly carved cherubs amidst exceptional foliate and floral designs leading up each side. The large central mirror plate is set within an elegant straight mottled frame, decorated with fanciful scrolls and large seashell cabochons at each corner. The striking and majestic top crown is centered by a large mirror plate framed within luxuriant foliate patterns and reeded scrolls below the captivating floral top seashell spray. At each side are elegant maidens casting out an urn of water, with rich floral scrolls and flowers in bloom. Exceptional detail with all original gilt throughout.
