What characterizes the Louis XV style?
The Louis XV style, also known as the Rocaille style, was inspired by the Italian Baroque and the rock motifs created in bronze and earthenware in the early 18th century. The Rocaille style, with its elegant and refined curves, developed essentially between 1730 and 1760. Ornamentalists turned away from order and symmetry in favor of capricious curves and rocaille elements.
