About the Item
This mirror reflects the influence of the Sheraton Style with its delicate strait lines, light construction contrasting veneers and neoclassical motifs and ornamentation. The smaller scale of this piece reflects the historical trend of people moving into cities and thus smaller homes and apartments. To accommodate traditional furniture style into this new environment the scale of the furnishings were simply decreased. This mirror's first home was most likely upon a case piece of the entry way of some New England city apartment.
A gilded brass ormolu bow in symphony with musical instruments provide the decorative theme of this mahogany mirror. It is crowned with a pierce wood carving and flanked by two square columns each of which has an inlaid black diamond at its head and foot. This piece is both elegant and accessible.
