Lorenzo Burchiellaro (b. 1933)
A dynamic square wall mirror by Italian sculptor Lorenzo Burchiellaro, in hand-worked aluminum. The frame's textured surface is etched and brushed in gestural vertical waves, causing light to ripple and dance.
A master craftsman and tireless innovator, Burchiellaro had a career-long love affair with metals. By carefully etching, brushing, and applying experimental oxides, acids, and patinas to them, he transformed their surface, texture, and feel, revealing the soul and depth of an element often considered cold and impersonal and creating objects of pleasurable, but complicated, tactility and joy.
