Nanda Vigo "Lady Placidia" marble mirror by Glas Italia, Italy, 1992

About the Item

A rare and beautiful "Lady Placidia" mirror with marble "Cosmate" inlay mounted on a block of Carrara white marble, designed by Nanda Vigo in 1992, produced by Glas Italia. This mirror, named Lady Placidia and designed by Nanda Vigo in 1992, is a sculpture crafted in only 21 exemplars. Similar to few of her other works, the Milanese designer explores the expressive potential of marble. Viewed as a malleable material, liberated from its monumentality, stone enters the domestic environment through "livable" objects and sculptures. Among her mentors, Nanda Vigo counted eminent figures of undisputed artistic caliber, from Filippo de Pisis, a family friend, to Gio Ponti, with whom she collaborated in the mid-1960s, and Frank Lloyd Wright, whom she encountered during her university studies. Throughout her extensive career, the Milanese designer consistently sought to interpret, through her work, the mysterious connection between space and time, initially through the creation of lamps capable of actively engaging with both the surrounding environment and the user. In more recent years, almost as if to interpret time as the eternity of stone, her creative research has focused on marble objects/sculptures. This round mirror from 1992 features a mosaic motif creating a colorful ring that runs around the circumference of the frame thanks to a precious inlay. With dimensions of 85x7 cm, the mirror represents a collector's piece where the functionality of craftsmanship successfully merges with the art object.
