Oval 19th Century Italian Carved Gilt Ribbon-Tied Oak Leaf Wreath Mirror

About the Item

An Italian gilt mirror with an oval oak leaf frame from the 19th century. This mid-19th century carved giltwood Italian mirror is set within an unusual oval oak leaf wreath frame, tied with a ribbon in the lower part. The richly decorated frame enclosing a later beveled glass evokes the civic crown of the Roman Republic, a reminiscence of classical Antiquity. The highly detailed naturalistic treatment of the foliate carving, along with the warm gilt finish of this Italian mirror, circa 1850, would make a great statement in any home, opening up space in an entrance hall or above a fireplace.
