Pair of Monumental 19th Century Italian Door Surround Mirrors with Antique Glass.
This striking pair of monumental mirrors began their lives as 19th century Italian door surrounds, later artfully repurposed into dramatic wall mirrors. Retaining their original carved wood frames with deeply molded profiles, each piece is richly detailed with hand-carved scrolling foliate motifs, floral embellishments, and timeworn gilded highlights that speak to their historic origins.
The soft, distressed cream and pale ochre painted finish adds a sense of age and authenticity, beautifully complementing the heavily patinated “ghost-like” antique mirror glass that has been inset. The mirror plates show areas of foxing and wear consistent with their age, lending an atmospheric, romantic quality that makes them ideal statement pieces for a grand entryway, bedroom, or salon.
