Pair of Large Ornate Venetian Mirrors of Round Tondo Form with Foliate Designs
About the Item
A gorgeous and ornate pair of Venetian style mirrors of round form with foliate designs on the top and bottom of each mirror. Yes. That's right. A pair. A twosome. The ornate foliate designs at the top and bottom are presented as individual pieces. The mirror has a round outer frame that is held to the mirror by a shield like design. Each gorgeous mirror measures over two feet top to bottom. Each mirror is backed with a sturdy wood support and is presented in a shiny black paint. But wait! Why are these called Venetian mirrors? Great question. Let's look back to the mid 19th century. A man named Antonio Salviati was fantastically successful in restoring the grandeur of Italian glassmaking. During this same time, young and noble Europeans were exploring the world thanks to the Grand Tour. Souvenirs had to be brought home! And what better souvenir than a gorgeous Venetian mirror. Or in the case of this listing, a pair! And to be clear and transparent (I mean, I am selling mirrors here) these were so difficult to photograph. But I did my best for you.
