Rare 17th Century Octagonal Baroque Inlaid Wood Framed Mirror

About the Item

A truly exceptional and museum-worthy find, this rare 17th-century octagonal Baroque mirror hails from Portugal and dates to circa 1640. Meticulously handcrafted, the frame is composed of deeply patinated walnut and rosewood, enriched with breathtaking inlay work of ivory and tortoiseshell. Intricate medieval scenes rendered in high-contrast figural compositions decorate each of the eight panels, offering both artistic depth and historical intrigue. Elegant accents of ebony, silver, and brass provide dimensional contrast and elevate the mirror’s regal presence. The perimeter is studded with hand-forged floral bosses and domed pins, while the bevelled inner edge is detailed with striped bone and wood marquetry. The craftsmanship throughout is extraordinary, showcasing a rare harmony between ornamental opulence and architectural geometry. A commanding decorative statement, this mirror is not only a reflection of one’s space but also of an era defined by devotion to artisanal excellence. Ideal for collectors, connoisseurs, or those curating a heritage interior.
