Swedish 19th Century Eglomise Mirror
About the Item
This fabulous Swedish mirror is dripping in detail, circa 1870. Eglomise mirrors have been painted on the reverse side to reveal an image from behind the glass. This one depicts a peaceful scene of a country house with a large tree shading it against painted white glass. The frame is painted with a base coat of gilt and accentuated by carved details painted in black surround the mirror. Each corner piece of the frame is painted black and set with a gold gilt rossett adding layers of character. Light foxing is visible in the original mirror plate.
