About the Item
This fabulous Swedish mirror is dripping in bold details, circa 1870. "Eglomise" mirrors have been painted on the reverse side to reveal an image from behind the glass. This one depicts a bucolic scene of a country house with a large tree shading it against painted white glass. The frame is painted with a base coat of gilt and accentuated by carved details painted in black surround the mirror. Each corner piece of the frame is painted black and set with a gold gilt rosette adding layers of character. Light foxing is visible in the original mirror plate.
