About the Item
A fine Swedish Gustavian carved two-tone giltwood mirror signed by the master mirror maker Johan Åkerblad (1728-1799) and with the stamp of the Stockholm gilt (hallsta¨mpel). Åkerblad was one of Sweden's most prominent and prolific mirror makers, working mainly in the Rococo and Gustavian style. The divided rectangular plate within a beaded and moulded frame surmounted by a large pierced cresting consisting of shell motifs, C-scrolls, ribbons and laurel swags. In superb original condition, with the original faceted mirror glass and back with a nice patina.
