Some objects are built with rhythm instead of ornament. This wall mirror by Campo e Graffi in teak, designed in the 1950s, shows how movement can be embedded in shape alone. The gesture is soft, but the execution precise.
Design
The mirror is framed in solid wood with sculptural tension. Its outline bends gently at each edge, drawing in the viewer’s attention without relying on symmetry. The top and bottom edges are subtly flared, while the sides bow inward, giving the piece a slight hourglass silhouette. Grain direction and finish reveal the hand of the maker.
From the side, the frame reveals its depth, tapering and swelling in just the right places. The teak wood itself is smooth, warm, and well-aged. At the joints, fine teeth in the wood suggest careful craftsmanship. This detail, though small, anchors the piece both visually and structurally. The mirror glass sits flush within the frame, square but softened by the organic line that surrounds it.
Campo e Graffi’s work often navigated between industrial precision and artisanal flow. This piece is no exception. It’s modest in scale, but layered in thought.
