19th Century French Napoleon III Rosewood Bed

About the Item

19th Century French Napoleon III Rosewood Bed is a testament both to expert craftsmanship and exotic imported material from the Americas. Designed in a neoclassical style, it features a boldly arched headboard topped with a lavish heraldic crest with foliates. Both the head and foot boards are intricately molded and set with cross-matched veneer panels for visual intrigue, then framed with carved and fluted columns on each corner topped with turned finials. Characteristic of French beds in this period, the lower panel of the footboard is a design match to the side rails, with the exception of a little carved flourish suspended at the center. Bed frame accommodates a modern full size mattress of 55 x 75. Bed linens in initial photos are not included. Circa 1880s Headboard measures 59.5H x 58W; footboard is 41.5H x 58W Available for pickup in the Dallas Design District, Dallas, Texas

19th Century French Napoleon III Period Rosewood Salon Chair
Located in Dallas, TX
19th Century French Napoleon III Period Rosewood salon chair is an elegant example of Fine French craftsmanship using exotic imported wood from the Americas. Sometimes called Kingwood, rosewood is known for its natural beauty, color, hardness, and ability to last for eons. This example combines elements of the Louis Philippe form with accents from the Louis XVI style, with a graceful shield-shaped seatback carved with flowing ribbon at the top of the arched crown. The remainder of the seatback follows tailored lines accented with scrolls for a tailored opulence. The seat itself is beautifully contoured and upholstered in mohair, and features gracefully scrolled legs, with the front legs molded for added visual appeal while retaining an austerity of form that is the essence of understated elegance. 19th Century French Louis XVI Painted Bed with Caning
Located in Dallas, TX
19th Century French Louis XVI Painted Bed with Caning is a remarkable work of the furniture maker's art! Sculpted from walnut, it features artistry exhibited from the crown of the headboard to the arbalette base of the footboard which happens to match the side rails. The gracefully arched headboard consists of complex hand-carved molding surrounding a Greek coin border all across the crown, centered with an exquisitely rendered wreath of roses tied together with flowing ribbon. Egg finials on foliate bases adorn the corners, underneath which are rosettes and bell flowers, with more rosettes on the corner of the caned panel. As should be the case, the footboard has received equal attentions of the sculptor, with a boldly molded framework in an ovoid shape centered with a laurel wreath tied with ribbon mounted atop the double caned panel. Triangular rosettes provide an accent, with square rosettes serving as end caps on each corner under which are more bell flowers. The original painted finish has achieved a lovely patina and a charming state of distress that only adds to the allure and desirability of this magnificent work of the cabinetmaker's art! Accommodates full mattress with extra width to spare, or a custom mattress that can use queen sheets...

Located in Dallas, TX
19th century French Napoleon III Embossed & gilded mirror displays extraordinary detail in a celebration of the classical style! Embossing patterns include a bordering all around, with a tier of intriguing foliates, next to a gold bordering and a raised, half-cylindrical molding that is raised from the surface and embossed to depict bundled florals with several types of flowers represented in the detail. Finally, around the original beveled mirror itself appears one last triple tier of gold molding with beading accent. The original silver is starting to show distress at the bottom, typical for mirrors of this age, which to the cognoscenti only adds to the charm and allure! A tailored corbel appears at the bottom on each side as a finishing transitional touch to the surface upon which the mirror is mounted, which can range anywhere from the floor to a magnificent fireplace...
