19th Century Italian Hand Wrought Gilt Pierced Iron King-Size Headboard

About the Item

The mastery of Florentine craftsmanship in the ancient art of working handwrought iron is expressed in this wonderful 19th Century Italian headboard suitable for king size bed or double bed. This phenomenal hand forged and gilded iron headboard has an intricately scrolled ironwork with foliate patterns, stylized fleur de lis floral motifs and balls. The hand forged iron headboard dating back to 1800s has a variety of different scrolling motifs throughout. All are symmetrical in their placement. The lower part of the headboard has a rectangular shaped frame centred by a curly wrought iron work featuring a series of continuous double C-scrolls with flared ends back to back, two thick bands hold everything together. The upper section of this golden iron headboard is formed as an opposing pair of pierced S-shaped and C-shaped scrolls elegantly draped with acanthus leaves foliate decorations throughout, its design slants upward towards the middle, all flanked by rounded tapered column supports embellished with lily flowers and balls finals. Scrolls as motifs were used throughout history starting from ancient Greek and Ancient Roman period and are always very elegant. They also show a high degree of workmanship. Full sized bed headboard, by either fashioning mounts for rails, or even just mounting it directly to the wall and floating the frame in front. The back of this piece is just as nicely decorated as the front handwrought iron with golden hand forged iron seen in images # 17, 18, 19, 20, this allows its placement even in the centre of the room. It's thick forged bars are a sign of very old quality work, and today, it will serve as a unique and beautiful architectural bedroom accessory. Measures: Width 180 cm (max 190 due to the forged decorations that emerge from both sides of the upper part of the frame), height 165 cm, depth 3 cm.
