About the Item

An incredibly stunning original Art Deco double bed in walnut, boxwood and mother of pearl. The shape is iconic of the era. The theme is of lovebirds and the beautifully detailed birds inlaid into this furniture has wings of mother of pearl, creating a stunning 3 dimensional effect and an iridescent appearance. The body of the birds are in fruit and box woods The birds feature on the bed head and baseboard, and there are rays of mother of pearl lines radiating from these centre car-touches. Overall condition This stunning bed is in generally lovely condition overall. The birds most importantly have no damage, each pair of lovebirds are framed by mother of pearl swags and there are some missing on the headboard design. The overall design is honestly not effected and it does not stand out visually because there is so much intact. Overall there is the odd strip of mother of pearl missing here and there. Again it does not show out. You will find the odd scuff, knock or scratch as expected on older furniture. Delivery requires the furniture to be dismantled but its easy enough to put back together and you will be advised by the courier how to do so The bed can be sold separately. There is no base or mattress. You can either use pieces of 2 by 2 down the sides, fix slats across and mattress on top. With the mattress edges on top of the side rails you can accommodate a king size ( English King with is 60 " wide) The bed is actually 59" wide like this so there would be a half inch overhang each side soon disguised by bedding Or it is big enough to drop and English double divan base on legs, no drawers straight inside, this will accommodate a double mattress.
