About the Item

The iconic and rare vintage Ikea KROMVIK chrome king-size bed with the original SULTAN sprung mattress, designed by Knut Hagberg, 1982. The modernist form takes clear inspiration from Swedish architect Bruno Mathsson’s 1974 Ulla bed. Designed to compliment the best-selling SULTAN box spring mattress, composed of a slatted pine frame housing steel springs, layers of polyether foam, and a quilted cotton cover. IKEA has a rule that all the beds in its range should be named after Norwegian places. Thankfully, there is a Norwegian place called KROMVIK – and it’s the perfect name for a chrome bed-end. KROMVIK was launched across a whole spread in the 1982 IKEA catalogue. It stayed in the catalogue right up to the 1994 edition. One of the most iconic vintage items - and currently the only original KROMVIK bed in the world available for online purchase! Very comfortable and in very good vintage condition. No significant damages on the frame whatsoever. The mattress has been professionally cleaned and desinfected. Some stains remain, as indicated in the photos. Structurally perfect and fully functional. Springs in the mattress function properly. Original 'Sultan' label present on the mattress. Sold and shipped assembled, with the mattress.
