Monumental American C. LEE Full Tester, “Bed 2741 !!!”

Available for curation; a monumentally superb full tester Charles Lee plantation bed. Manchester master cabinet maker Charles Lee created spectacular bedsteads for the most elite families and great houses of the south. His beds were of the highest quality in material, joinery and superb carvings. No true finely fitted home was complete without a C Lee bedstead. Today, the remaining examples of his masterpieces can be seen in governors mansions, fine homes and historic house museums throughout the South. Charles Lee was active from 1856-1868. All true Charles Lee bedsteads are numbered in the order of their production with his later beds displaying higher refinement and quality. This monumental work is composed of part form, rectangular tester with grand flowing cove molding and vertically veneered panels, pronounced headboard with robustly carved and applied cartouche above a rectangular molded panel, flanked buy four imposing tapered ring turned posts raised on suppressed bun feet, side rails and foot rail are shaped and with applied central cartouche. A truly, truly magnificent piece! All components are original with no marriages or alterations. Stamped to back of headboard, and all four rails "C.
