Oceanic Sculpted Walnut Headboard by Pulaski Furniture Co., circa 1969

About the Item

This fantastic lacquered sculpted walnut 'Oceanic' headboard by Pulaski Furniture Corporation, circa 1969 which perfectly encapsulates the California surf mentality of the 1960s and 1970s, making this piece a highly sought after design by Tiki collectors and Mid-Century Modern design aficionados. Fits perfectly with a queen sized mattress or use with a twin or full size mattress and nightstands (which we have in another listing). *Note, if you are using this with a bed frame, this was made for Full-Size bed as the distance from screw holes is 58". Full size mattresses are 54" wide so this leaves room for the bed frame which holds the mattress. For most people, who are not using this with a bed frame - this works great for Queen size beds as the full width is 60" which is exactly the width of a Queen size mattress. You can place the headboard behind the mattress or affix to the wall. This lovely rare oceanic contour headboard by Pulaski Furniture Co is often attributed to Witco. The credenza of this line by Pulaski Furniture Corporation was featured in Donald Draper's office for multiple seasons on the hit TV show 'Mad Men'. A photo of the set design is shown in the photo gallery of this listing. This wild oceanic queen or twin / full sized headboard by Pulaski Furniture Co. would work great in a Surf / Beach styled bungalow or Tiki styled home, but also would fit perfectly in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian Modern or Danish modern home or penthouse apartment and could also look fantastic in a contemporary or Postmodern room. Also consider mixing it up in a traditional, transitional, classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. MEASUREMENTS: H 47" x *W 60" x D 58" **58” From screw hole to screw hole. CONDITION: Good condition with vintage wear as to be expected from age and use. Sturdy and sound, ready to be used immediately in a vintage setting or can be refinished upon request.

'Taliesin' Mahogany Twin Sized Bed Headboard by Frank Lloyd Wright, 1955, Signed
By Frank Lloyd Wright, Heritage-Henredon
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This gorgeously refinished Honduran Mahogany 'Taliesin' Collection headboard for a twin sized bed was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Heritage-Henredon in 1955 and produced only for two years, therefore is now a highly sought-after and rare collectors item. This example is signed with a Heritage Henredon stamp on the lower front bar. Frank Lloyd Wright stated that one of his goals for this line was for the 'design to make the home more efficient as well as more beautiful'. Woven into each piece of this series was the chamfered wood edge with an abstracted Greek key motif, the signature detail of every Taliesin design, covering the edges of each item in the collection. All of the pieces were executed in Honduran Mahogany, a high-end luxury wood choice. His idea was to design ‘infinite adaptability to American living’, for example desks could double as dressing tables, small tables could be used as a chair or stool and bookcases had moveable tops transforming into room dividers. Decoration was limited to the greek key edges so that ‘is of the piece, not on it’ and the removal of elimination of any hardware door or drawer pulls in favor of cut out flush pulls...
