About the Item
A bespoke hand-crafted four poster bed using original antique decorative front posts. Our skilled craftsmen in our Welsh workshops will reconstruct a four poster bed in the same style as an original antique four bed using a set of stunning genuine antique bed posts shown.
The main photograph and subsequent close-ups show a stunning example of a 6ft wide (72" or 180cm) four poster bed that we created in Autumn 2024 for a designer who supplied us with a specific design and the fabric for the drapes and upholstery. We supplied the designer with everything including adjustable bed slats for an electric bed. Likewise, the following photographs show other recent four poster beds we have recently completed for different designers and clients.
Please see the additional photographs for the details of the original antique posts we currently have available. The overall height of the finished four poster bed is determined by the height of the front posts, which all vary. These antique bed posts are all that remains of original four poster beds dating from circa 1800 to circa 1900.
This made-to-order bed can be any size you wish. The price here is for Californian King or UK Super King (72 inches wide) but we can make these beds at any size including US Queen or UK King (60 inches wide), US King (76 inches wide) and Emperor (78 inches wide).
The upholstered back panel can be arched, straight rectangular, or a bespoke shape, and will be upholstered in a fabric of your choice. The canopy infill can also be covered in a matching fabric. We can also supply drapes if required, with pelmet valances, back and side curtains, similar to the photographs of previous bed we have completed as shown.
The basic price is for the four poster bed frame in a size of your choice, using a set of posts of your choice, and includes an upholstered headboard and standard flat canopy infill. It also includes a standard firm bed base (platform base) to support the mattress (see photographs), but we can supply a sprung base (box spring) if you prefer for a small additional charge. We can also provide electic adjustable slatted bases to fit - please inquire.
The fabric for the upholstered headboard and canopy infill is extra and we can supply a full range of fabrics from all suppliers, or you can source yourself.
Any drapes, pelmets, curtains or pleated canopy are extra and we can work with you to finalise the design and source the fabrics required.
The mattress, bedding and bed linen are extra and can be provided to fit.
Please note - these recosntructed four poster beds take around 12 weeks to be made. Please allow for this lead time when ordering. In special circumstances we can supply them quicker but it depends on how busy we are. Please inquire.

The posts with well carved elements: neoclassical urns, capitals, carved turnings and vase sections; their most attractive part is the boxwood and mahogany lined inlay which we haven't seen on English 18th beds.
In addition, unusally, the rails are designed to be seen and made in mahogany and framed with carved and plain astragal beads.

Needs new drapery hangings and the white fabric around the end posts & headboard should be cleaned or replaced. For the new mattress, we would recommend a box spring mattress with a well (height is saved with part of the box mattress fitting between the rails) and a second mattress on top. But you could also fit lathes and just have the top mattress with cut out corners to fit around the posts: norris bedding custom make such mattresses.
