About the Item
Stunning pair of 19th century bedside cabinets.
Both the quality and the superb condition of these striking nightstands are like an ode to their makers. Mind you, these cabinets are at least 130 years old and they still look riveting. The open design with the two tiers and the various other striking design elements make this pair an absolute joy to own, use and look at. The makers clearly have used the most beautiful, solid nutwood available and in order to emphasize the depth in the design they have incorporated the bird's-eye maple inserts/plaques. The workmanship is right up there with the best we have ever seen and the quality of the materials is no different. For cabinets of this age to be in such great condition and to still have all the original, brass casters with their wooden wheels (also in museum worthy condition), truly is a rare find. Unlike most bedside cabinets, these finest quality ones can also be used free standing, because the backs too are perfectly finished (see image 12). Finally, the grey and red marble tops are the perfect finish to these handcrafted cabinets and thanks to their timeless design they will look marvelous in all kinds of interiors. For example on either side of a modern boxspring they can bring class and style into your bedroom like no modern cabinets ever could.
