About the Item

Peculiar and interesting pair of Italian bedside tables made of walnut burl; for each bedside table the upper top is rectangular with only one very rounded corner, and the entire lower structure follows the lines of this design; the functional space underneath is divided by a large compartment enclosed by a door and an outer space with a small, practical exposed shelf; the nightstands have no feet and the entire structure rests directly on the ground, increasing solidity and stability; the doors close with pressure and snap, and are fitted with two simple round, smooth brass handles; the compartment enclosed by the door, which is very large, is made of wax-polished walnut; one bedside table has an internal top placed at the top, while the other has the top in the center of the space. Skilled master cabinet-makers executed these nightstands in the Art Deco style in a perfect and meticulous manner in an artisan workshop in Lissone (Monza-Brianza-Italy) between 1930 and 1935. The Lissone area has always been famous for the production of high-quality carpentry. The walnut-root construction, with the characteristic chromatic colors of this wood, gives our nightstands a unique and exclusive elegance and refinement. The artisans were inspired by the desire to devise two small-sized objects with strong, simple lines and gave the bedside tables a timeless elegance; their design plays between austerity and strictness, and their exaggerated linearity gives the objects a dynamic and stately character. European walnut (Juglans Regia) is by far one of the most valuable and fascinating woods, making it particularly popular in the luxury furniture sector; walnut burl looks like a collection of twisted wood fibers that give the wood its characteristic hardness and firmness; burl also has an absolutely unique aesthetic value, since, thanks to its many ever-changing natural grain patterns, it is very elegant and refined. The nightstands have been hand-treated with ancient restoration techniques by our team of artisans and are in excellent condition, only inside one nightstand at the bottom are some dark spots (see photo), on which we did not consider doing any restoration because these imperfections (by the way, not visible externally) make the object truly alluring and fascinating and attest to its antiquity and authenticity. On the back of the nightstands, you can see a series of holes (see photo), in fact, the nightstands themselves were fastened with screws to the headboard of a bed; since these holes are on the part that leans against the wall, we have left them as originally. Measurements width cm.90, depth cm.30, height cm.64. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
