Art Deco vintage pair of nightstand or chests from walnut pagoda - like designed circa 1925 Austria attributed to Hugo Gorge. Hugo Gorge ( 1883 - 1934 ) was a popular designer and architect in the interwar period for domestic culture and featured high quality craftmanship. This pair of nightstands stands out through its stunning brass handles and the high quality execution. While the surface shows a beautiful walnut grain veneer, the edges are framed with darker walnut for a beautiful appearance. Each night stand shows an amazing maple interior consisting of one drawer and one storage compartment with shelves. At the upper part the edge has a slightly curved balustrade. The materials are plywood, spruce and walnut. Shellac polished by hand, so the condition is very good with minor signs of age. In the Art Deco period in Europe the designers wished to use far eastern elements. Pagoda like elements were very popular in the European art, which was based on Chinese and far eastern role models. Also let me draw your attention to the amazing brass handles, this furniture fitting design is exposed at the museum for Applied Art in Vienna. The brass handles were executed by Wiener Werkstätte and designed by Hugo Gorge around 1920. approx. measures: Width 51.5 cm Height 78 cm Depth 43 cm.
