Bär + Knell Recycled Disney store plastic bag chair junior 1992

About the Item

Chair, designed and made by Bär + Knell Design, recycled plastic Walt Disney store bag post-consumer packaging. Each seat is marked and unique. Design trio composed of Beata and Gerhard Bär and Helmut Knell. Their work emphasizes a basic concept, the use of ‘waste’ as a valuable raw material. An idea that holds a mirror up to both recycling and consumerism. Started with the world Expo in 1990, decorated the african Pavallion with 400 recycled chairs from collected plastic from Africa and Germany. Each chair features a unique design. "Our work is the means of achieving aesthetic and ecological targets. And everything revolves around the principle of recycling. Plastic packaging waste – from bags for potato crisps to bottles for fabric softeners – is used to produce useful “ everyday items. The original colours and printed brand names and logos that consumer know so well are all there; they have just been changed slightly by the manufacturing process. Each object is unique and become identity as regards shape, colour and structure. This individualism All objects are testimony of their times, giving insight into consumerism and, in fact, acting as a mirror of everyday life." (Bär + Knell)
