About the Item

This is a handsome display featuring the signature of celebrated American aviator Charles A. Lindbergh (1902-1974). Lindbergh signed the page, now cut, in black ink as "Charles A. Lindbergh." His signature appears above his typed signature. A colorized photograph of Lindbergh in his fur-trimmed flying suit posing next to his famous biplane, the "Spirit of St. Louis," completes the signature collage. An engraved plaque with salient biographical details appears in a floating mount at the bottom. Charles A. Lindbergh (1902-1974), a Midwestern airmail carrier, rocketed to celebrity after his record-breaking solo non-stop transatlantic flight from New York to Paris in 1927. In his plane, “The Spirit of St. Louis”, Lindbergh departed on May 20th from Roosevelt Field, in Long Island. After 33 hours in the air, flying solo, without sleeping, and coping with adverse weather conditions, he touched down at an airfield outside Paris. His feat astounded and delighted the world and secured his position as one of the most important figures in aeronautical history. Lindbergh helped found what would later become TWA in 1929, and legitimized the nascent American airline industry by developing rules and regulations and even conducting publicity campaigns. In the 1930s, Lindbergh traveled around the world evaluating airpower capabilities. Later, Lindbergh worked with Longines Watch Company to produce a navigation-friendly pilot's watch, and even invented a glass heart pump that facilitated heart surgery. Condition: Very good condition. Signature is black ink, penned above Lindbergh’s typed name. Signature is legible and strong. An isolated pinprick affects the "d" of Lindbergh's signature, else near fine. The display is artfully matted in steel gray, grass green, and textured burlap mats within a patterned metallic custom frame. The size of the cut signature is 1 3/8" H x 3" W . The overall framed size is 21 5/8" H x 13 3/8" x 1"D.
