Fourteen works by R. D. Blackmore in thirty-five volumes. Very scarce to see Blackmore's works in a set.
Smartly bound in a half morocco binding by W. J. Mansell.
This smart set includes almost the complete works of Blackmore.
Blackmore was one of the most famous novelists of the second half of the nineteenth century, best remember today for his 'Lorna Doone'.
This set includes;
'Clara Vaughan', complete in three volumes, published in 1864. The very scarce first edition. Half-title is present to each volume. Original publisher's cloth bound in the rear of each volume. Two pages of adverts to the rear of Volume III.
'Cradock Nowell', complete in three volumes, published in 1866. The uncommon first edition.
'The Maid of Sker', complete in three volumes, published in 1872. The very scarce first edition. Half-title is present to each volume.
'Alice Lorraine', incomplete in two volumes, being Volumes II and III of a total of III volumes, thus lacking Volume I. Published in 1875.
'Cripps the Carrier', complete in three volumes, published in 1876. The very scarce first edition.
'Erema', complete in three volumes, published in 1877. The uncommon first edition. Half-title is present to each volume.
'Mary Anerley', complete in three volumes, published in 1880. The uncommon first edition. Half-title is present to Volume I.

These volumes include the most important writings of Berkeley, such as 'A Treatise Concerning the Principles of Human Knowledge', 'Three Dialogues Between Hylas and Philonous', 'An Essay Towards a New Theory of Vision', and 'De Motu', in which he argues against Isaac Newton's theories on absolute space, time, and motion. The views expressed in 'De Motu' were a precursor to the views of Albert Einstein.
