With the illustrated bookplate of American industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie to each front pastedown. Carnegie, born in Stevenson's native Scotland, emigrated to America as a child, and was instrumental in the expansion of the American steel industry, becoming one of the richest Americans in history, and a leading philanthropist in the United States, Great Britain, and the British Empire. During the last eighteen years of his life, he gave away ninety percent of his fortune to charitable causes. In half morocco bindings, with marbled paper covered boards, and gilt detailing to back strips. A touch of fading to back strips, otherwise externally fine. Bookplates to front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright. Overall: Fine
